It's free and children do not need to attend every event, but we do need a complete list of participants.
You may be surprised how much the kids like to talk about the books they read in a small, relaxed setting.
We will be discussing “Inside Out and Back Again,” by Thanhha Lai. It’s a New York Times bestseller, Newberry award winner, and National Book Award winner. It’s about a little girl and her brothers who are forced to move from war-torn Vietnam to Alabama. It’s a regular fictional story, but it is written in free-verse poetry so children can read it relatively quickly or you can read it aloud as a family. Check out the Good reads review.
The reviews indicate that the book is for “8 and up,” but, as always, parents have discretion if they think younger readers can handle the material and sit through a discussion with their schoolmates. Parents, it’s a good read, so you may enjoy it too. That way, you can join in the conversation, and/or talk about it at home with your children. Also, older siblings and friends are welcome too. Everyone enjoys a good conversation about a good book, and we’re always happy to have older “facilitators” too.
For those who haven’t joined us before, we are a casual group. We sit in a Westbriar family’s living room or dining room, share snacks (the kids’ favorite part), and talk about books. You’ll be amazed at what these kids have to say.
