WESTBRIAR GRACE ARTS
2017 - 2018

GRACE Arts is a great way to be involved in your child’s classroom!

No art experience is necessary, and it’s a fun way to learn about art and artists along with your child! Information about the artists will be sent to you in an email for each of the months listed above. You can decide how and what you wish to teach about the artist or topic and follow it up by an art project with the whole class.  All material is provided for the presentation and the projects.  All it takes is a few hours a month and an opportunity to work with your child and their class.

Please consider volunteering your time to this valuable program in art education! Please email us to sign-up to be a Grace Arts volunteer for your child’s class or click on the link below.

We will schedule a short session in the second half of September for you to get all the information you need to volunteer.  It’s a great way to get involved and meet other parents as well.

To get involved, please contact your student's teacher.

HOSPITALITY AND TEACHER APPRECIATION

The hospitality committee organizes various catering events for the school staff and parents.

We sponsor  luncheons, over the course of the year, for the entire Westbriar staff in an effort to show appreciation for all their hard work and dedication to our school and our children. Because of their efforts, Westbriar is a highly sought after school! These luncheons are just a small way for us to acknowledge their efforts and to say “thank you” for all that they do.

Additionally, we work closely with the Room Parents Committee to stock the staff room each month, and organize special appreciation days for the teachers during teacher appreciation week in May.

If you have any questions, or are interested in helping, please contact Traci Sonnenberg.

Thank you!! We look forward to demonstrating our support for our teachers.

REFLECTIONS 2017/2018 "WITHIN REACH"

The PTA is excited to announce that we'll be continuing our participation in the nationwide PTA Reflections program this year. This is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program that encourages artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2017-2018 theme: Within Reach.

General rules:

1. Theme must be "Within Reach."

2. Multiple categories/entries are allowed.

3. Each entry must have its own, separate entry form.

4. The artwork must have a Title and an Artist's Statement.

5. No joint entries are allowed.

6. Must choose one of the following categories:

Dance Choreography Dance Choreography
Film Production Film Production
Literature Literature
Music Composition Music Composition
Photography Photography
Visual Arts Visual Arts

7. Submission deadline: Friday, October 27, 2017.  All submissions should be brought to the Front Office that morning.

Submissions will be reviewed at the local, regional, state, and national level. Judges will look for personal interpretations on the program theme that best exemplify creativity and technical skill.  Because Interpretation of Theme is worth twice as many points as the other criteria, a well-developed concept is more important than artistic skill, which means "Title of Artwork" and "Artist Statement" sections in the entry form are very important.

Westbriar has had a wonderful history of students advancing past the local level and we are excited to continue supporting the creative talents of our students.

An optional informational session for the Reflections Program is being offered on September 28th from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.in the cafeteria. If you have any questions, please contact the Reflections Committee Chair, Lei Lu

More information on the Reflections program is also available on the National PTA website:
